S.A.C. Prep (Sol Aureus College Preparatory) is a tuition-free public charter school open to all students. Our aim is to help prepare students to succeed in competitive college preparatory high schools in preparation for college and other post-secondary educational pursuits.
On July 30, 2003, S.A.C. Prep opened its doors to over 70 excited 5th graders. The school’s model called for starting with one grade and adding one grade per year until reaching its current model of a full 5th-8th grade middle school.
After a successful first year, S.A.C. Prep needed more space to expand to serve more students. In the fall of 2004, the school moved from Oak Park to Meadowview, its current home. Intended to be a temporary the school has been challenged to find facility space large enough to expand while maintaining its base in the Meadowview community.
S.A.C. Prep has successfully “graduated” three classes of eighth graders sending them to top public and private high schools in Sacramento.
History
The Founder and Principal of S.A.C Prep, Alton Nelson Jr., had always dreamed of building and leading a great, neighborhood public school that would prepare all of its students to compete and be successful in college without having to leave their community. He chose the Meadowview community and South Sacramento for its cultural diversity and its’ socioeconomic challenges.
Mission
The mission of Sol Aureus College Preparatory (S.A.C. Prep) is to prepare our students with the knowledge, skills, and habits necessary to compete and to succeed in college and in life. S.A.C. Prep goes beyond just academic preparation to include character development.
The school culture strives to be a positive and supportive learning environment of high expectations for all of its students. We believe it is not enough for students to see gaining admittance to college as the finish line, but merely a significant part of the process of achieving their career goals and life goals
